Katy Perry

Katy Perry's not just famous for her fun "party anthems," but for her crazy fashion sense too. She blows people away event after event with her quirky and cute style, donning all sorts of things from glitter to lycra to tutus. When she's not all candied up, however, she looks stunning and elegant in beautiful gowns by some of the biggest names in the fashion industry. I love her songs, her hair styles, her personality and her style, which has all added up to make one of the coolest and hottest girls in Hollywood these past couple years.

Katy's outfits are as spontaneous and often as wacky as her hair colours, yet this is what makes her such a big hit. Her chameleon-like fashion sense has her wearing sexy body con dresses one night and long flowing dresses the next. She also wears certain outfits for specific events, such as a Smurf dress to the Smurfs premiere, and a slime green crop top, skirt and shoes to The Kids Choice Awards 2012. Her choices are fabulous for every occasion and while she may raise a few eyebrows, she has fun with all that she wears and her confidence shines through.

Above are my all time favourite looks on Katy. Her floral dress and cute braided bun in the top left image is casual and fun, looking especially effortless while riding a bike. Her fringe dress and cut out heels are great for a night out, and her Japanese inspired outfit is quirky and cute with her cotton candy pink locks. Katy looks stunning in her long baby blue gown, and wows once again in a more toned down gorgeous grey and white dress on the bottom right. Katy's quirky style is once again reflected in her chunky oxford heels, light pink jacket and printed body con dress. In the bottom middle right picture, Katy is the epitome of chic in a laid back long black dress, and brings back her fun and sexy style with a patterned top, tutu skirt, strappy heels and colourful highlights to match.

Katy is incredible in every aspect; she's gorgeous, sexy, funny, charming and has a killer voice and taste in clothing to match!

My Style: Skulls

I went shopping this weekend and bought a few pieces of clothing, among them this top which I just think is so cool. It's a bit long, so it looks great paired with skinny jeans or tucked into some shorts. The design is fun, modern and brings a bit of grunge into your wardrobe, and is perfect for a day out with your friends or to wear to a concert!

Basics: Leather

Leather has been around for ages and will continue to be for years yet. It is a timeless material which is used for everything from bags to jackets to shorts. It is a very important and common fabric in the fashion industry and can add that tough girl vibe to what was previously sweet and feminine. Mainly seen made into bags, shoes and jackets, leather has recently, in particular, been made into all sorts of clothes like dresses, skirts, tops, shorts, and the list goes on. It is seen on the catwalk basically every season and is used by the designers and brands to bring some rock n' roll and bad girl ways into their looks.

Dresses are one of the best ways to wear leather because the material is flattering and can be bunched and pleated to add rough yet still quite feminine texture. Body con leather dresses require a good body so only wear them if you're super confident, whereas pleated leather can look great on many body types. If you want a bit more attitude, go for studded and metallic leather, and if you want to be daring, try leather in a bright colour like the red dress on the right, or cut out details like the beautiful gown on the left.

Leather jackets are a classic look, however nowadays designers put a modern spin on them. Go for bright colours or more modern cuts if you want to be in on the latest trends, or if you'd like to go for the vintage look, try the original styles in different colours. Tops made of leather have also been quite popular, particularly tank tops and bustier tops. Careful how you wear them though, because leather which is loose on your body can sometimes be unflattering for your shape.

Leather trousers can be both tough and chic with the right accesories. Pair them with some beaten up boots for a bit of spunk, or pair them with some chunky heels or cute flats for a more subtle approach. Trousers can be a pain in hot conditions, especially when they're leather, so instead opt for leather shorts or skirts. Shorts are great for a fun look whereas skirts can be more professional when both pleated and body con.

Shoes have been made in leather for centuries and continue to be popular now. For a comfortable and classic look, go for leather sandals. For a night out, you can try pumps or strappy heels. A day out for lunch or an event requires a mix of the two, so go for chunky platform heels like the Jeremy Campbell T-Bar Shoes on the right or wedges.

Leather looks fabulous on all shapes and tends to suit young adults more so than older adults or teenagers/children. Leather is also very popular among street style in places like London and Paris, and is the chill go to look for models and fashionistas worldwide.

Birthday Wishing

So my birthday's next Sunday. I'm turning 16 so I guess that's kinda a big thing. I can (legally) get into NC16 movies and (legally) have sex in Singapore. So I guess that's, er, exciting. Anyway, next Friday is our last day of school, followed by 6 weeks of exam leave and exams themselves, and then summer. So hopefully this'll start the 6 weeks off well and then I'll just study and be bored and have a miserable time for the rest of the time. Good news is though that during exam leave... 1. my braces are coming off! And the day before my first exam at that (maths, *cringe*), 2. we get Macbook Pro's, and 3. FORMAL! Which I'm thoroughly excited about. But to focus on my birthday more importantly, I'm hoping to spend it doing whatever during the day and then having dinner with around 20 of my friends at the Hard Rock Cafe, so that should be fun! And on my birthday wishlist is...

1. A good quality, preferably Canon, digital camera

2. A titanium crystal necklace like on the right. Fortunately if they don't have any more of this exact one, there are loads on etsy! I've been obsessed with crystals ever since they appeared on my tumblr dashboard and my friends got some small crystal necklaces from Ladakh

3. Seeing as there isn't much else I specifically want, I'm hoping for some gift cards to some of my favourite shops in Singapore i.e. Topshop, River Island, Bershka...

*Crossing my fingers* that I have a fun day and get what I want! :)

My Style: Fun Tribal Prints

Well I know this isn't a particularly exciting outfit but I've had this dress for a while now and have always loved it. Aztec and tribal prints have been popular these last couple of years and hopefully are here to stay! They can brighten up any outfit and give it some texture and colour. I like how they can be incorporated in any type of clothing, to create a cute and feminine look like with my dress, or to be something a lot more hardcore and tough. This outfit is along the lines of what I'm going to wear to my school's Sports Awards Dinner next Friday so I'm glad I can get some wear out of my beloved dress!

dress - Target, shoes - Forever 21, headband - Rubi Shoes

rings - all from Topshop

I personally think Topshop is not only one of the best shops for teenage fashion, but it also has amazing jewellery. I have been in love with my eye ring from the moment I saw it, and while it doesn't fit my fingers quite as well as I'd hoped I still cherish it. The next ring along is also another favourite and is my newest ring, along with the leaf one which is also quite nice. I love rings but I really don't wear them enough.

Blinged Out Collars

Shirts have been all the rage recently. Sheer, patterned, asymmetrical... you name it! But what's really set apart a plain shirt from a unique shirt is the collars. Decorated in lace, pearls, studs and sequins, "blinged out" collars have taken over the shirts of fashionistas everywhere. Whether it's stuck/sown right on or you wear one as a tie up/necklace, these cool collars transform a great outfit into one that can be sweet, rock n' roll or elegant. I've been dying for a top with a collar like these and am unfortunately still without one! It's definitely on my wish list though, so maybe come my birthday next weekend I'll own one soon.

Pearl collars, especially white ones on light colours like the top right and bottom pictures to the left, create a beautiful and timeless outfit. The white pearls are reminiscent of the stunning necklaces worn by royalty and iconic celebrities like Audrey Hepburn from the 20th century and earlier, and so bring the same elegance with them into an outfit. If you do, however, want one with a bit more attitude, pair dark pearls with sheer pastel shirts and maybe even some faux fur like the top left picture.

Studded collars are a more modern and rock n' roll take on collars, and can spunk up any top. Collars were once an overlooked section of the shirt, however with studs you can be certain your top will be noticed. Spiky studs will give your top a bit more of a "bad ass" vibe, whereas flatter circular studs can still be sweet and pretty if paired with a sheer light coloured top. Studs are also more suited to younger crowds and can be easily worn at any time for any occasion without being too overdressed.

Sequined collars are perfect for a night out or a more dressed up event. The glittery collars will catch the lights perfectly to sparkle all night long and are therefore great to catch a cute boy's attention! Make sure not to overdo the sequins with too much jewelry though because you'll definitely want your collar to be the biggest statement.

Lace collars, like pearls, bring a softer side. Lighter shades like the picture on the bottom right depicts younger side. This is emphasised further when paired with a bow like the bottom left image to evoke that schoolgirl look, however can still be professional and business-like with a blazer. If you want your outfit to be a bit more seductive, lace in dark colours like black and navy look sexy and confident, especially if the shirt is sheer.

No matter the occasion, shirts with decorated collars are great. They're fashionable, relatively easy to wear and appropriate for all ages. They come in the form of shirts already made or tie ups/necklaces which are easy to pair with plain shirts or high necked sweaters/tops. With so many styles to choose from, I don't know what I'll get because I think they all look fabulous!

Do you own a "blinged out" collar? What do you think of these?

Miley Cyrus

Though she may be infamous for her newly found bad girl ways, the girl does have style. Even when she's in casual clothes or going for Pilates, she rocks everything she wears with attitude or in the cases where she's at an event, with elegance. I would do anything to have her closet and her body, for that matter. While she mightn't have gotten off to the best start in fashion back in the Hannah Montana days, Miley has blossomed into a fashion queen. Her style appears to be almost effortless yet still so cool and chill.
Miley's street style can range from casual to chic to feminine no matter where she is. She'll usually leave her hair out and long or in a bun, and she almost always has with her a pair of round or cat eye sunglasses. Denim shorts and jeans are definitely a go to look for her, however she'll often change it up with a dress or tights. She loves bustier tops, cross body bags and boots and ballet flats on her feet. It seems to me that practically nothing looks bad on her, and she nails the chilled-out-youthful look everytime.

It's when the stars comes out that this fashionista truly shines. Miley's even more flawless when it comes to her choices in evening dresses. She can be girly, tough, graceful or sexy, and all with confidence. The brunette bombshell looks glamorous in both darker and lighter colours and changes it up with different styles of dresses each time. My all time favourite event outfit of hers would have to be the black bustier top and maxi skirt which she wore to the Hunger Games premiere this year. It's fun and young yet still sexy in black with a flash of midriff. She also looked amazing in the light grey long sleeved gown on the bottom second to right, which she wore to 20th Annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Party.

I'm always jealous when I see Miley's fashion choices. Sure, I could buy similar clothes and wear them myself, but I don't think I'd ever be able to nail it quite like she does. Her easy going street style paired with her stylish and luxurious evening wear is what makes her one of my style icons. Not only if she fashionable but she has an incredible body, a gorgeous face and a beautiful voice to match! What more could you want?

Sass & Bide Spring 2012

images from Elle

I recently found one of these outfits in a magazine and loved it, so I decided to look up the rest of Sass & Bide's Spring 2012 Collection and was blown away. The two Australian designers behind the well-known brand, Sarah-Jane Clarke and Heidi Middleton, have managed to fit the bulk of this season's trends into 28 looks. Bright primary colours stand out against monochromatic prints and white, geometric patterns and designs are embedded within feminine silhouettes, and metallics blend harmoniously with black; they've got it all! The clothes are modern, fun, wearable, and flatter a variety of ages and sizes.

Above are my favourite looks from the collection. I adore the bold aztec print in the first 4 outfits, which have been featured in several of their previous collections. Asymmetrical tops, skirts and dresses were a common concept within the collection and it's one of those trends which can be both sexy and sweet depending on how you wear them. Another way you can show a bit of skin is with the cutouts in some of the clothes. Whether's it's a skirt or top, Sass & Bide create seductive peek-a-boo cuts without revealing too much. Lastly, I love the accessories they've paired with the outfits, such as the statement necklaces and peep toe heels in black and brown. Clarke and Middleton have created a beautiful line, one that I'm dying to get my hands on despite the rather hefty price tag for a teenager like me. If you've got the money for it though, this is certainly a brand worth splurging on.

Power Pastels

Pastel colours have been a springtime favourite this year, and have been seen everywhere from runways to street style to make-up. The paleness and delicacy of the colours add a girly and sensitive vibe to any outfit, and can be featured within all sorts of ensembles.

Several iconic fashion brands have created pastel masterpieces for their spring 2012 collections. Prada blended together contrasting pastels, Valentino combined delicate lace textures with the pale colours in elegant long gowns, and Louis Vuitton fit both of these concepts into one. Versus added some gradient patterns into their skirts, and Preen paired youthful yellow with pretty pink to brighten up their collection. Along with the incorporation of pastels in the clothes themselves, the models also donned pastel make-up.

Pastel make-up and smooth, pale skin highlights the creaminess of the beautiful shades. Baby pink lips are a common look, along with long lashes, nails that pop, fresh faces, pink cheeks and dashes of colour over the eyes. These paired with a pretty bun or long flowing hair give you the ultimate feminine look.

Pastel shades look great on all skin tones and can be added into just about any outfit to give it a girly touch. Pair a pastel blazer with a white top and skinny jeans for a chic look, a pastel dress with some floral heels and clutch for an all over soft dressed up look, or a pastel top with denim shorts and sneakers for a casual and young look. Don't forget to keep your make-up relatively neutral with perhaps some baby pinks on your cheeks and lips to get the fresh faced appearance.

Hello

Welcome to my new blog! I was inspired to create one after seeing Veena's blog (seven-inch-stilettos.blogspot.com) and I figured I should get a start on practicing writing about fashion and photography and all the things I love so that some day it could create a career for me. I've been interested in becoming journalist for a while now, and I've always thought it would be really exciting and enjoyable. I also love to take photographs and am taking a class in it at school. Dripping in Gold will be about a variety of things, mainly fashion, beauty, photography, music, pop culture, and also a bit about my personal life. I hope you enjoy reading and looking at my blog and leave me some comments!
